Anderson Public Library has introduced a new reading level program that will help children find the right books for their ability.
Called the Lexile Framework for Reading, the reading level system utilizes a way that measures both complexity of text as well as reading ability. According to Lexile, this allows for finding a better fit of books to readers by assigning a number based on a scale to quickly identify the reading level.
Children’s librarian, Sherry Noon, sees the additional level system as a major benefit for families who are new to Anderson County. She explained that many parents and children are accustomed to using the Lexile system which is popular in various areas across the nation.
Lexile measures are now available for many titles and can be accessed through the online catalog system. Lexile measures will be shown below the current reading level system, Accelerated Reader.
