Summer at the Library: Read! Explore! Discover!

Join us at the library this summer as we Read, Explore, & Discover with weekly programs for each age group, family events, and a fun “Bookopoly” family reading challenge!

Summer at the Library encourages leisure reading and provides opportunities for fun, hands-on learning, enrichment, creative expression, and entertainment in an informal setting.  For all ages!

Reading Challenge

Summer at the Library has two parts:  the programs & events, and the ‘Book-opoly’ reading challenge.
The reading challenge starts June 3rd and runs through July 31st and is for all ages, including babies & adults!

‘Book-opoly’ is a fun way to participate in summer reading.  Color in squares as you complete each activity, then turn it in at the end of the summer with at least 10 squares completed for a chance to win a $25 gift card or prize. Children & teens also earn books for registering and upon completion. (All prizes must be claimed in person.)

All reading counts including reading to your child.  There is a Book-opoly board created especially for ages 5 and under.

Tips for Encouraging Reading

  • Summer reading should be fun, not a chore!
  • Let kids choose their own books to read.
  • Don’t worry about reading levels for leisure reading; reading below level increases
    fluency & builds confidence!
  • Audiobooks & graphic novels are real books!
  • Illustrated books are for everyone!
  • Read together as well as giving them time to read or look at books alone.
  • Provide quiet time & a cozy spot for reading.
